Program Overview
Do you feel confident in your daily clinical practice?
NO?
Do you have a colleague or mentor who you can discuss cases with and learn from their experiences?
NO?
Well, you’re not alone!
Who are you?
Maybe you are a medical doctor who is new to functional medicine.
Maybe you are a nutrition practitioner who is newly qualified, or have been working alone and isolated in your own office.
Or maybe you’ve been doing this a while and just love to learn and grow.
Here are some of the issues we have heard from practitioners from all fields over the last 5 years:
- Do you feel overwhelmed by all the information you have recently learned, and don’t know how to start applying it in your clinical practice?
- Do you lack confidence in which test to use, when and why, or which supplement to recommend, when and why?
- Do you feel overwhelmed by the complexity of your clients & patients cases and unsure how to begin?
- Do you know what to do when your interventions don’t go to plan?
- Do you just wish you had 5 – 10 years more experience than you currently do?
- Do you feel isolated and alone in clinical practice, and wish you had someone to discuss ideas and problems with, or to learn from other’s experiences?
WE HEAR YOU!
We have more than 35 years of both clinical practice and education experience in the UK Nutrition and Functional Medicine field, providing us with deep product, functional testing and clinical knowledge.
We have been listening to you all over the last several years, and we have also been in your shoes ourselves.
We have pooled our considerable resources and experience to provide the solution that we wish we had had when we were just starting out, so you can feel EMPOWERED, excited and confident not just in your daily clinical practice, but also when you hit the bumps in the road.
Introducing
The Applied Functional Medicine Mentoring Program
What this is not:
a sponsored, sales oriented ‘protocol based’ education program designed to sell our products
(spoiler alert: we don’t have any products to sell you)
What this is:
A comprehensive education program, based around real life in clinical practice.
Providing clinical pearls, addressing the common issues seen in clinic, focused on solutions to YOUR problems, providing UK based resources including diet plans, supplement and functional testing support, all with UK information. All the while using the functional medicine framework and way of approaching and thinking about a case.
With medical doctors, nutritional therapists, osteopaths, health coaches and performance coaches joining the program, we are incredibly excited to help establish collaboration between practitioners, and help build a truly meaningful community where we can cross refer, and, make a real difference to our clients health journey.
Whatever your specific struggles in clinical practice, we know that you will benefit from access to:
- A set of UK specific resources that you can turn to for guidance in clinical practice
- A more in-depth understanding of functional and investigative testing
- A mentor, or/and community to support you and your clients
- A program taught in a non-sales, unbiased manner
And let’s dig deeper into what we’ll cover together.
There are six modules, covering six key systems.
Each module will include four webinars.
We will be diving in to the research and discussing case studies.
Gastrointestinal Health
This is an area where there appears to be a big gap between the theory
and the clinical practice. A lot of knowledge from working with the gut
comes from trial and error. We learn from our patients! This module
looks at the practicalities of supporting all the aspects of digestion,
small intestine including SIBO, and the large intestine including
dysbiosis and parasites. We will cover therapeutic dietary
interventions, the therapeutic order of intervention and why that is
important for successful outcomes, and how to troubleshoot when things
just aren’t going to plan or test results come back worse after
intervention! We will also be diving deep into the different tests
available for assessing the gut, and the pros and cons of each, and when
you would choose one over another (we don’t believe there is one
perfect test, or that you should be using the same test for everyone all
the time). We will also be diving into supplementation and how to
choose which and when. And much much more besides!
Detox
Biotransformation and elimination of exogenous and endogenous toxins and xenobiotics is a complex and highly critical role of the body’s daily function. Healthy capacity and function is affected by genetics, environmental factors such as individual exposures, prescribed and OTC medications and of course food and nutrition.
Autoimmune
One of the most common and also most complicated conditions we are dealing with in clinical practice. Join us in learning how to logically break down an autoimmune case and work through identifying and supporting the overlapping and often multiple antecedents, triggers and mediators.
We will be covering:
- Genetics
- Barrier permeability and immune homeostasis disruption including and far beyond intestinal permeability.
- Stress and trauma, sleep, infectious agents, toxins and foods.
- Testing, nutritional interventions and lifestyle strategies.
Hormones
Hormonal imbalances frequently contribute to, and are consequences of,
complex conditions, and thus can complicate the case. Join us in taking a
functional approach to understanding, assessing, and supporting
hormonal health. We will dive in to the current research and discuss the
numerous factors contributing to dysfunction, and share case studies to
help demonstrate functional thinking in four areas: women’s health,
men’s health, thyroid function, and the HPA axis.
Neuro
Brain-health and mood issues are a common presenting complaint in clinical practice, and also a common symptom or side effect of other issues such as hormonal dysregulation, fatigue, autoimmunity, gut issues and more.
Amelioration and support of these issues is currently very protocol driven: “what’s the right supplement regimen for depression or anxiety”, with the underlying functional imbalances not necessarily being well understood or investigated.
This module dives deep into the foundations of brain and neurological health with the aim of addressing fundamental aspects of brain health, not just resolution of symptoms.
Food Intolerances, Sensitivities, & Allergies
Food intolerances and reactivity is a very common issue in clinical practice, but can be multifactorial and (something). In this module we cover:
How to identify when you should be considering food reactivity in a case. The role of food reactivity in seasonal allergies, migraines, eczema and other skin conditions, urticaria, histamine reactions, autoimmunity, joint and musculoskeletal issues, pain and brain health.
We discuss testing in-depth and means for identifying food reactivity issues.
We review the mechanism of oral tolerance, how it is established in the first place and how it becomes disrupted.
